For a small school (<10,000 students), with engineering, on the West Coast, without overly competitive admissions, I would reiterate my vote for Santa Clara. Even though each one is unique with its own campus and faculty, students can take classes across the colleges. I've never heard any bad things about it! That is perfectly okay, unless you want ... well ... a Christian education.
